Important Announcement:

GOOD NEWS on the OGL front. As of 27 January 2023, it looks like Hasbro/WOTC has completely backed down. The OGL looks to remain in effect and future D&D SRD will be under a Creative Commons license. Personally, I suggest everyone who can move away from the OGL as corporations (IMHO, naturally) are some of the least trustworthy entities on the planet when it comes to actually keeping their word, especially long term.

Re: Microlite20 Fifth: Adamantine Edition

@Babilfrenzo, nice work on this!

Are you the original author of Adamantine Edition? It's my go-to version of m20.

Re: WotC, the OGL 1.*, and SRD 3.*

The entirety of the 5.1 SRD is now Creative Commons, and OGL 1.0a stays I still can't help but wonder if the D&D team's conversation with Hasbro/WotC higher-ups didn’t go something like this: December 2022 Wizbros: We're under-monetized, let's get all the controls and royalties for all the thin...

Scroll usage in m20

Fun discussion started by squirewaldo on scroll usage in m20-alikes over on itch.io . tl;dr version: All classes can at least attempt to use scrolls. Using a scroll does not require the sacrifice of HP as normal casting does. Attempting to use a scroll requires a Skill check (DM fiat, but most like...

Re: WotC, the OGL 1.*, and SRD 3.*

It looks like the main things material to m20 that remain OGL "Licensed Content" are the character creation process and classes. Meaning you could write those from scratch, paste in a large portion of 5E's mechanics, and have a workable rule set. Also not included are spell descriptions an...

Re: WotC, the OGL 1.*, and SRD 3.*

New draft of the OGL is out. If only that had been what they released in the first place. :roll: Core mechanics (as explicitly cited by page numbers from the 5.1 SRD) licensed CC 4.0, basically only "product identity" (spell names, beholdera, etc.) subject to OGL. I'd like to think 1.1 wa...

In fairness it's because I'm in like 4 FB groups where it showed up, not over-promotion.

Re: WotC, the OGL 1.*, and SRD 3.*

Hmmm, although this from EnWorld makes a good point that the post doesn't completely walk back the "de-authorization" of OGL 1.0a. It appears to for existing content, but not for new content. Which in the presence of the ORC license and similar is not a big deal unless you're targeting 5E ...
